A moving story of composer Stephen Edwards and his musical quest to deal with the loss of this mother, who was a noted choral conductor. The film covers the struggles of composing a major work in her honor, and the challenges of getting a choir of almost 200 Americans prepared to perform at a famous festival in Vatican City for a live performance that was broadcast worldwide.

After 11 weeks on the Billboard Classical Album Charts with “Requiem for My Mother”, Music for Moving Images has released Stephen Edwards’ “Requiem for My Mother: Themes and Variations” as a follow up to the acclaimed album.  “Themes and Variations" contains 5 of the original tracks from the first record: “Requiem Aeternam”, “Dies Irae”, “Sanctus”, “Pie Jesu”, and “In Paradisum”.  The other 11 tracks are variations on the themes established from the original “Requiem” - many recorded with the City of Prague Orchestra and even 2 tracks featuring composer Stephen Edwards on solo piano.  Also, many of these variations ended up being used as underscore for the acclaimed APT documentary film “Requiem for My Mother”.  Edwards also collaborated with 3 of his film scoring colleagues (Jimi Englund, Jose Varon and Scott Marcussen) in “recomposing” variations on some of the themes used in the original requiem, creating interesting unique variations on the themes established in the original requiem.
